Two months after getting paroled, Augusta man wanted for woman’s murder

Date: September 08, 2024

An Augusta man who was paroled two months ago for a gun-violence crime is now accused of killing his new girlfriend.

Davante Parks, 26, is wanted for Saturday’s shooting death of 27-year-old Laquana “Quana” Lang. She was shot Saturday morning in a residence on the 500 block of Hines Street in Augusta. The victim was pronounced dead at 11:06 a.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Parks has multiple warrants for him, including charges for murder and weapon possession. Davante Parks is known to frequent the Allen and Jennings Homes neighborhoods, the  sheriff’s office said in a press release. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

Parks was 18 years old in 2016 when he shot a woman repeatedly in Richmond County.

The incident began when Parks’ friend, Marion Terry, sought revenge on Brittanie McKie, whom he suspected of setting him up after a robbery, according to previous reporting. Terry and Parks shot McKie, who survived despite being hit five times. A subsequent confrontation with Bilal Givens and another suspect led to more gunfire, resulting in Terry’s death.

Parks pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Sheryl B. Jolly. She sentenced him to 12 years of confinement and 13 years of probation, but he only served eight in prison before being paroled on July 16, 2024, according to court records.

As part of the conditions of his parole, he was supposed to live with his mother, find employment, not have any contact with Augusta street gangs, pay $30 a month to a victim’s compensation fund and stay away from the victim who he shot five times. Instead, he is now accused of more gun violence.
