Two more golfers have accepted invitations to play in the 2025 Masters.
The announcement from Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, came on Wednesday, Jan. 8 that Nicolai Højgaard, of Denmark, and Joaquin Niemann, of Chile, have accepted invitations to play in the 2025 Masters.
“In support of Augusta National’s efforts to develop interest in golf globally, deserving international players not otherwise qualified have been invited throughout the Tournament’s history,” Ridley said. “The tradition continues as we welcome Nicolai and Joaquin back to the Masters, as both players have showcased their talent while competing around the world. We look forward to their arrival this April.”
Højgaard, 23, will make his second Masters appearance after his first in 2024. Last April after each of the first three rounds, he held top-six positions and briefly led the Tournament on Saturday before finishing in a tie for 16th place. He is currently No. 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
In 2024 he finished seventh in the Olympics for Denmark and closed the year with five consecutive top-25 performances on the DP World Tour in France, Spain, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
Højgaard’s twin brother, Rasmus, will make his Masters debut this April. This will be the first time that a pair of twins will compete in the same Tournament.
Niemann, 26, will make his sixth Masters start in April. In each of the past four Tournaments he has made the cut and has top-25 finishes the past two years. He is currently No. 71 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He finished T-9 in the Olympics for Chile last summer.
In the final two months of 2024, he finished T-7 in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai and T-5 as defending champion in the Australian Open before he won an Asian Tour event in Saudi Arabia. Niemann made his Masters debut in 2018 as the top-ranked amateur in the world and the reigning Latin America Amateur champion.
As of Wednesday, 87 players have been invited to compete in the 2025 Masters. Three qualification criteria remain active:
- Winner of the 2025 Latin America Amateur Championship, to be contested January 16-19
- Winners of upcoming PGA Tour events that award a full-point allocation
- The 50 leaders on the final Official World Golf Ranking published during the week prior to the Tournament
The 2025 Masters will be the 89th playing of the Tournament and is scheduled for April 7 – 13. For a complete list of invitees, visit Masters.com.
