School officials reported two separate safety incidents Friday at Evans High School and Greenbrier High School, though neither resulted in injuries.
At Evans High School, Principal Wade White said, in a letter, that three students were involved in an altercation on campus, which also resulted in a staff member being struck. The staff member was not injured, and White emphasized that all students involved will face consequences under both the district’s code of conduct and the law.
“Safety of students and staff is a top priority, and we take incidents such as these extremely seriously,” White wrote in a letter to parents. “Inappropriate physical contact of any nature is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
At Greenbrier High School, Principal Chip Fulmer notified parents a student was found with a knife during an ongoing and unrelated investigation.
Columbia County School District Police confiscated the blade immediately. Fulmer said no students saw the weapon, no threats were made, and the student will be held accountable under school policy and state law.
Fulmer urged parents in his letter to talk to their children about bringing inappropriate items to school.
“Parents, please speak with your student about the dangers of bringing inappropriate items on school campus or to any school-related events, and the serious consequences that will follow,” Fulmer wrote.
District leaders have said they remain committed to maintaining safe campuses. They have called on the community to help ensure schools stay safe and positive learning environments.
