With family, teammates, and coaches filling the Thomson High School media center, two Thomson High School football players officially signed to continue their athletic careers on Wednesday afternoon.

Kennedi Bailey, a defensive back, signed with Liberty University, while Jayden Thomas, an offensive lineman, signed with Appalachian State.

Bailey finished his senior year at Thomson with 18 solo tackles and a pair of interceptions. Listed at 6’3, Bailey’s height will play a huge role as a defensive back for Liberty.

Bailey gave a speech and thanked those who helped shape his development and reflected on the bond he built with his teammates.

“To my teammates, who I call my brothers, thanks for grinding with me and competing with me,” Bailey said. “We built something special.”

Bailey also made it very clear why he chose Liberty University.

“I chose Liberty University because it was the perfect place to grow. Not only as a player, but as a man. The coaches at Liberty believe in me, have invested in me, and they see the vision I have for myself,” Bailey said.

Thomas graduated from Thomson High in 2024 and would spend a couple of seasons at Georgia Military College for JUCO football, where he redshirted his first year and played his second season. His size and athleticism are big reasons why Appalachian State and multiple other colleges wanted Thomas.

Thomas also felt confident in his decision to join Appalachian State and took his family into consideration when choosing where he wanted to go. Thomson Head Coach Michael Youngblood noted that the program made him feel at home and supported his desire to stay close enough for family to attend his games.

“When he decided to commit, I called him up, and I did not even question him, I just told I’m proud of it because he wanted to go somewhere that he felt like his home,” said Coach Youngblood.

Youngblood stated also that Thomas made the choice so his mother and grandmother could come see him play.

“The other thing I know about him is that he wanted to make sure his mama and grandma could come see him,” Youngblood added.

Thomas made sure to mention his faith has played a big part in where he is today.

“I give all glory to God. I would not be here without him,” Thomas said. He also thanked his coaches at GMC and Coach Youngblood for believing in him.

Both players were highly praised by Coach Youngblood for their work ethic, character, and leadership traits.
