Citing the increase in area COVID-19 cases, officials with the United Way of the CSRA have cancelled the annual fundraising kickoff originally scheduled for Aug. 23 at the Bell Auditorium.
“We made the decision last week to cancel the kickoff,” said Brittany Burnett, president and CEO in an email Aug. 16.
A separate email sent to supporters said “we feel that it is our responsibility to keep both you as a guest and the rest of our community safe.”
Burnett said the fundraising campaign will continue this fall and a fundraising goal will be announced the week of Aug. 23.
The United Way of the CSRA raises money for health and human service organizations in the Augusta area. United Way supported charities include Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Senior Citizens Council, Forces United, The Family Y of the CSRA, Golden Harvest Food Bank, Boys and Girls Clubs of the CSRA and Easterseals East Georgia.
