The United Way of the CSRA is celebrating the success of its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program during the 2024 tax season, providing free, IRS-certified tax preparation services to residents across the region.
The program was made possible by funding from Wells Fargo, according to a press release from the United Way of the CSRA.
This year, VITA filed 101 federal and state tax returns, securing $66,656 in refunds for local families, according to a press release from the United Way of the CSRA. Participants saved an estimated $21,600 in tax preparation fees.
The average adjusted gross income of those assisted was $29,911, underscoring the program’s impact on low- and moderate-income households.
“We’re grateful to Wells Fargo for their continued support, which helps empower our community to build stronger financial futures,” said Angela Collins, director of community impact for United Way of the CSRA. “This program goes beyond tax preparation; it’s about fostering financial stability and community resilience.”
Officials from The United Way of the CSRA stated the program’s success was driven by local volunteers, who contributed 195 hours of service.
These IRS-trained volunteers ensured that clients filed their taxes correctly and provided valuable financial guidance. Beyond tax filing, the program helped participants gain financial knowledge that will benefit them long after tax season ends.
The VITA program remains a vital resource for CSRA residents, providing crucial support in strengthening their financial well-being., according to a press release from the United Way of the CSRA.
