Improper glove changing and handwashing discovered at one restaurant in this week’s health inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and while no businesses received a failing score from March 25-29, one business did get a score in the 70s.

Vic’s Grill, 3755 Wheeler Road, Augusta, received the lowest score of 71. Inspector’s comments included: “observed an employee changing activities and not properly changing their gloves or washing their hands” and “observed employees cooking food without beard restraints.” 

Other comments included: “observed no Certified Food Protection Manager certification,” “observed pink buildup inside the bulk ice machine,” “observed multiple TCS foods in the coolers held past date markings,” and “observed multiple food items not properly labeled outside of their original containers.”

Inspector’s comments: “observed uncovered containers of shrimp in the prep top cooler,” “observed several bus tubs of chicken stored at room temperature on the prep table next to the fryer—temperatures of chicken were between 76F and 88F,” and “observed a bottle of cleaner stored next to cooking oil.” 

  • Lily Coffee, Tea and Bread, 1378 Laney Walker Boulevard, Augusta: 81

Inspector’s comments: “observed no employee health reporting agreements at facility,” “observed hand sink blocked,” “observed no sanitizer at facility,” “observed several items stored with no date mark,” “observed food stored outside original container with no labels,” “observed RIC at 66 degrees Fahrenheit,” and “observed scoops stored inside several products.” 

Inspections by the Georgia Public Health Department are used to make sure residents and visitors are safe. These were the inspections performed between March 25 and March 29.
