Unwashed hands prepping food discovered at one restaurant in this week’s health inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and one restaurant did receive a failing score from April 29-May 3.

The Brunch House of Augusta, 573 Greene St., Augusta received a failing score of 66. Inspector’s comments included: “observed several cooks leave kitchen area, return, and place new gloves on without washing hands” and “observed cook preparing food without proper hair restraint.”

Other inspector’s comments included: “observed no PIC at time of inspection,” “observed no employee health reporting agreements on site at time of inspection,” “observed strawberry cream cheese stored on counter, uncovered,” “observed several items cold held above temperatures,” “observed box (case) of pancake mix stored on floor,” and “observed employee place new gloves on prior to washing hands after leaving work area.”

The second lowest score was a 79, and it was received by Persis Indian Restaurant & Bar, 3112 Washington Road, Augusta. This same restaurant failed last week’s health inspection with a score of 59. Inspector’s comments included: “observed meatballs, cilantro, and samosas stored uncovered—repeat violation,” “observed tomatoes, onions, and shredded lettuce cold holding above 41 degrees F—repeat violation,” and “observed raw chicken stored above ready to eat food in WIC—repeat violation.”

The Juicy Crab, 2834 Washington Road, Augusta had the third lowest score of 80. Inspector’s comments included: “observed employee come inside kitchen from back door, rinse hands without soap in 3-compartment sink used for dish washing and return to fry/grill line to prepare food,” “observed two employees preparing sauce cups of honey mustard and wiping sides of over-filled cups with bare hands,” “observed clams, mussels, shrimp, and tilapia stored uncovered in RIC on grill line,” “observed brown build-up in corners of ice machine—repeat violation,” “observed food stored on floor in dry storage and WIF,” “observed scoops stored in potato starch, sugar, and other seasoning containers—repeat violation,” and “observed wet nesting of stacked dishes.”
