The University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) has recently announced the appointment of Daniel P. Elwell Sr. as its new vice chancellor for development and alumni affairs, effective July 28.

He is a seasoned fundraising executive with over two decades of experience in higher education and non-profit sectors, succeeds Mary Driscoll, who is retiring after years of service.

Elwell, who most recently served as the chief development officer at The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges in New Jersey, brings a wealth of expertise in philanthropy and alumni engagement, according to a press release from USCA.

In his previous role, he oversaw the organization’s comprehensive fundraising efforts, securing record-setting gifts and grants, and driving the success of a $42 million capital campaign for a new facility.

“Dan’s extensive leadership experience and dedication to fostering strong relationships with donors and alumni make him an excellent fit for USCA,” said Chancellor Dan Heimmermann. “We are confident that under his leadership, we will continue to build on our development successes and strengthen our connections with alumni.”

Elwell’s career spans senior advancement roles at prominent institutions, including The Ohio State University, New Jersey City University, and the Rutgers University Foundation.

Throughout his tenure, he consistently exceeded fundraising goals and helped these institutions expand their fundraising operations, according to a press release from USCA.

In his new role at USCA, Elwell will focus on advancing the university’s development initiatives, strengthening alumni relations, and securing the resources needed to support the institution’s growth and future ambitions.

“I am excited to join USCA and contribute to its vision for the future,” said Elwell. “The university’s commitment to student success and the enthusiasm of its alumni community deeply resonate with me. I look forward to working with the team to ensure USCA reaches even greater heights.”
