USCA Theatre Players bring “Pipeline” to the stage

The University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) Theatre Players will present “Pipeline,” a powerful drama by Dominique Morisseau, on Nov. 12, 14, and 15 at 7 p.m., with a matinee performance on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.

All shows will take place in the O’Connell Theatre at the Etherredge Center, according to a press release from USCA.

Directed by Dewey Scott-Wiley with assistant director Yassiar Brown, “Pipeline” tells the story of Nya, a Black single mother fighting to protect her son, Omari, from the systemic barriers that threaten his future.

The 90-minute production includes the poem “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks and examines issues of racism, love and the failures of the public education system, according to a press release from USCA.

The cast includes Asia Jennings as Nya, Daniel Mason as Omari, Raelyn O’Briant as Laurie, Antonio Donaldson as Dun, Yisaira Castillo as Jasmine, Tobias Knight as Xavier, and Daryl Slate as understudy.

The production team features Ashleigh Ponder as production stage manager, Kennedy Pollard as assistant stage manager, and Asia Jennings as dramaturg. Scenic design is by Professor Ashley Jensen, with lighting by Tobias Knight, sound and projections by Jeasmine Blyther, props and assistant projections by Yassiar Brown, and costumes by Cade Melnyk.

“Pipeline” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc., according to a press release from USCA.

Tickets are free for USCA students. Non-USCA students can attend for $7, while general admission is $10.
