University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) alumni Jason Crane and Gerry Owen have pledged a $25,000 gift to the School of Business Administration to create an endowed scholarship supporting students intending to major in accounting or finance.

With the gift, the Jason K. Crane and Gerry L. Owen Endowed Business Scholarship will be established to provide an annual award of about $1,000 to a rising junior or senior who is a full-time, degree-seeking student at USCA.

Preference will be given to those who actively participate in community service or extracurricular activities at the university.

Both Crane and Owen are co-founders of Crane & Owen Financial Solutions in Aiken, and credit their own success to the foundation provided by their USCA education, according to a press release from USCA.

Crane, a 2006 graduate with a degree in political science, and Owen, a 1996 graduate with a degree in business administration, have both remained closely involved with the university, serving on various boards and contributing to the local community.

“We are incredibly grateful and proud of the education we received at the University of South Carolina Aiken,” said Crane and Owen in a joint statement. “… starting an endowed business scholarship at USCA to support others in accomplishing the type of success we have achieved is one way we can show our appreciation.”

USCA students must have a documented financial need and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and intend to major in accounting or finance to be eligible to receive the scholarship, according to a press release from USCA.
