A month after Columbia County commissioners voted down a controversial rezoning request to make way for a luxury boat storage at Ridge Road, another vehicle storage facility has been proposed on Washington Road in Appling.

Evans-based LSD Development LLC has submitted a request to rezone property at 5385 Washington Road from Residential Agricultural (R-A) to Special (S-1) for an outdoor vehicle storage yard, along with potential other commercial use.

The site is comprised of three parcels, totaling just over 12 acres, with a barn currently the only structure on the property. The developers plan to install a gravel lot with 250 parking bays for RVs, campers, tractor trailers and the like.

Should the county determine that the lot must use asphalt instead of gravel, the lot will have 300 parking bays, the narrative document says. The narrative also states that should the developers be permitted to use gravel, the buffers and rear and side setbacks will exceed the minimum requirements.

Should the county approve the rezoning, the narrative projects the lot to be complete by April of next year. The Columbia County Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the request during its meeting on Nov. 6
