Date: February 24, 2021

Richmond County School System announced Tuesday that five areas school will join Verizon Innovative Learning, a program that equips students and teachers with devices and up to 4-year 30GB 4G LTE data plans.

The five schools included in the program are A.R. Johnson Magnet School, Hephzibah Middle School, Langford Middle School, Spirit Creek Middle School and Tutt Middle School, according to a Feb 23 press release.  The program affects nearly 3,000 students and 175 teachers.

In addition to free technology and access, teachers receive training and support. The school system will pay a portion of the salary for the dedicated instructional technology coach at each school. All RCSS middle schools applied to join the initiative. The schools were selected by the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Initiative team, according to Chief Communications Officer Lynthia Ross.

“The initiative has been shown to drive academic improvement and boost confidence in technology use and resources for students and teachers,” RCSS Superintendent Kenneth Bradshaw said in the release.

Verizon Innovative Learning targets Title 1 schools in partnership with Digital Promise to address barriers to digital inclusion.
