Date: October 02, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to visit Augusta today to survey the damage from Hurricane Helena and participate in a briefing about continued federal relief efforts.

The location of Vice President Harris’ appearance has not been disclosed. President Biden will visit impacted cities in South Carolina and North Carolina today.

Her visit, accompanied by U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, comes on the heels of President Biden signing a major disaster declaration for Georgia.

Residents of Richmond, Columbia and 39 other Georgia counties hit hardest by the storm may now apply for individual assistance online at disasterassistance.gov. The aid may be used to cover damage to homes and personal property as well as essential items such as water and baby formula.

Many area residents have seen power and water restored to their homes, although Augusta remains under a boil water advisory.

Georgia residents can find resources like shelters and feeding sites at gema.georgia.gov/hurricane-helene. Gov. Brian Kemp suspended gas tax effective Thursday.
