The Burke County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man found dead Sunday.

Morris Harden Jr., 58, from the 2000 block of Dyer Street in Augusta, was found with an apparent gunshot wound according to an email from Capt. Jimmy Wylds.

Around 11:16 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 1200 block of Watkins Pond Road between Old Waynesboro Road and Highway 56. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered the body of a black male lying just off the roadway, the email said.

Wylds said investigators believe “that foul play was involved and this is being treated as a homicide.”

The victim has no apparent ties to Burke County and was last seen at his residence at 5 p.m. the day prior.

“Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 706-554-6633 or sheriff’s office at 706-554-2133,” the email said.
