No one wants a villain living next door, but Cruella De Vil doesn’t mind. In fact, she’s created a whole town just for them to come and settle.
That’s the premise of Emilie Tobias’s production of “Villains” June 25 and 26 at the Ballroom Dance Center on Grand Slam Drive in Evans. The show takes a light-hearted look at well-known villains through the lens of dance.
“I always do something fun. It’s not typical of many ballroom shows,” said Tobias.

Instead of a showcase involving a series of dance numbers, her shows have a theme to them.
Tobias has a theatrical background in addition to her dance and likes to combine them to create something for the whole family.
Her fictional town of De Vil has several sections to it including uptown, downtown, the wharf, the Wild West and a prison. Within those areas, audience members will find the likes of Dracula, Maleficent and Captain Hook. Comic book villains also have a place in Cruella’s world. A few real-life villains make an appearance including Henry VIII, who had a penchant for killing his wives, and Al Capone who has a “hot tomato” of a girlfriend.

Each villain is highlighted in dance. Tangos, waltzes, mambos, fox trots and swing numbers are all part of the fun.
Previous shows at the Ballroom Dance Center have included teenagers because they took classes there, but because of concerns for COVID-19, Tobias had to suspend much of her programming for the year, including their class. This year’s program features adults of all ages, including her oldest participant who will be 89 in July.
Tobias said she hopes to return to regular programming soon.
