Residents can learn more about what a UGA agency does to change city governments at a Thursday listening session, with spaghetti.

Good Shepherd Baptist Church is hosting Mayor Garnett Johnson and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government for a spaghetti dinner and “community listening session” starting at 6 p.m.

According to a release from the mayor’s office, the session will inform participants how the UGA institute has assisted other governments.

“This community listening session is an opportunity for Augusta-Richmond County residents to learn about the work that the Carl Vinson Institute does and how they have helped other cities and municipalities as it relates to charter review,” Johnson said in a statement.

In June, the Augusta Commission approved engaging the institute in the creation of an Augusta charter review committee.

The Consolidation Act which merged Augusta and Richmond County has not been updated since voters approved it in 1996.

The commission met with a Vinson attorney, Lori Brill, in July to discuss the options.
