Fan of The Killers?

Don’t plan on seeing them in concert at the Bell Auditorium unless you’re vaccinated.

Only vaccinated patrons with negative COVID-19 tests will be allowed in the arena on Sept. 30.

An email from the Augusta Entertainment Complex Wednesday said tickets for the concert go on sale Aug. 6, but the event organizer added a catch.

The email stated, “By purchasing tickets for this event, you confirm that at the time of the event you and all members of your party will have been fully vaccinated (at least two weeks after final dose) and will have received a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the event, and that proof of both will be required for each individual in your party. Children under 12 years of age or fans with a valid medical note preventing vaccination will be required to take a COVID-19 diagnostic test (PCR or antigen) within 48 hours of the event and will need to provide proof of negative result to security prior to entry into the facility.”

The email said the event organizer is making the requirements, not the Bell Auditorium.

A follow-up email with Katie Cason, the complex’s director of marketing, confirmed that it was only The Killers’ concert and none of the others scheduled at the Bell, such as Friday’s Styx concert, were affected.

The announcement comes as area hospitalizations are rising rapidly.

University Hospital reported a jump in COVID-19 patients on Tuesday afternoon, according to a Wednesday morning email from Rebecca Sylvester, director of Strategic Marketing and Promotions for University Health Care System.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, the number of individuals hospitalized due to the virus was 39; the number bumped up Wednesday.

“Yesterday, we had an afternoon surge that resulted in 64 COVID-19 patients today,” Sylvester wrote in an email.

The hospital had reported only three COVID-19 patients on July 6, the fifth straight week of single-digit hospitalizations.

In a separate email, Sylvester said the number is constantly changing.

Also, the hospital will restrict its visitor policy beginning Aug. 9 by reducing visitor hours from noon to 6 p.m. and allowing only one visitor per patient per day. Masks are required at all times.

University Hospital follows Augusta University Health, which reinstated its mask policy July 23.
