Warrant: Augusta mom bruises daughter with belt and forces push-ups

Latrice Burton, 32, of Augusta, Cruelty to children

Date: March 01, 2022

An Augusta mother was spending her fifth day in jail Tuesday for repeatedly beating her 6-year-old daughter with a belt, according to authorities.

Latrice Burton, 32, left the child with bruising all over her body, leading to a charge of felony cruelty to children in the first-degree, according to an arrest warrant. She allegedly struck the victim’s back, side, head, arms and buttocks with a belt on multiple occasions at their home on Fairmont Street.

The mother was also accused of other cruel punishment in February. “The accused forced the victim to do push-ups, stand in a corner and do jumping jacks,” the warrant said.

Burton was arrested Friday with a warrant accusing her of causing her child “excessive physical and mental pain.” The mother remained in jail Tuesday without bond.
