A seafood restaurant, an expanded Chick-fil-A and a custard shop are all in various stages of construction on a stretch of Washington Road.

In April 2021, expansion plans were announced for the Chick-fil-A at 3064 Washington Rd. which included the purchase of the neighboring Mi Rancho property at 3066 Washington Rd.

According to a recent video at the Washington Road Chick-fil-A’s Facebook page, the chicken business closed on April 21 for demolition to begin.

In the video, a man who identifies himself as John said the new Chick-fil-A would allow for cars to enter and exit at the light at Patriots Way and Washington Road, have an updated dining room, two full drive-thru lanes and double the parking of the previous Chick-fil-A.

The Mi Rancho relocated from the Washington Road space to the former site of St. Louis Original Burgers, Pickles Café & Grill and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers at 407 Furys Ferry Rd.

About a block west of the Chick Fil A, Whit’s Frozen Custard is under construction at 3118 Washington Rd.

According to the Whit’s Frozen Custard website, franchises are open in 10 states including Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Each store offers its “own special varieties of the Whit’s Frozen Custard recipes” and the names of the specialty creations which start with a base of fresh-made daily custard are also subject to the specific location. Chocolate, vanilla or the flavor of the week custard can be ordered in cones, cups, in sundaes or by the pint or quart.

Also, under construction is a Rockin’ Crab at 2807 Washington Rd. in front of Kroger.

The business was incorporated in June 2021.
