The Washington Walk Kroger held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Wednesday, celebrating some $1.1 million of renovations at the 36-year-old supermarket.
Staff joined Augusta Commissioner Francine Scott and representatives of food rescue partner Golden Harvest Food Bank in welcoming guests to commemorate the renewal project, which began in February.
Updated flooring, new bathrooms and a store-wide paint job were among the renovations in the market, alongside a host of additions.
A Murray’s Cheese self-service kiosk, artisan bread tables, new bunkers in the deli, an olive bar and two more belted self-checkout lanes were among the amenities added to the store.

“One of the reasons that we remodeled the store in this way is because we want to make sure that we’re still providing a comprehensive shopping experience during our remodel process,” said Tammie Young-Ennaemba, manager of corporate affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division, noting the Washington Walk store’s key location in Augusta, along the Washington Road shopping corridor. “When you think about stores that are in communities where this is the primary space that people shop, we want to make sure that we don’t impede upon the shopping experience and still giving them that affordable shopping opportunities that they can get at Kroger stores.”

The Eisenhower Crossing Kroger Marketplace, the supermarket location at the intersection of Jimmie Dyess and Harper Franklin Avenue, has been under construction since the beginning of this year, is due to open in spring of 2024.
The Washington Walk Kroger is located at 2801 Washington Road.
