A water main break at Augusta’s raw water pumping station has prompted city officials to close one pedestrian access point to the Augusta Canal towpath trail until further notice.

The Thursday break has been stopped, and the pumping station is back online at normal capacity, according to a statement from Augusta Utilities.

As part of the repair, however, officials have temporarily closed the pedestrian bridge connecting Eisenhower Park to the trail, it said.

Utilities is directing trail users to either Savannah Rapids Park or the Lake Olmstead trailhead off Milledge Road, said Leadra Collins, public information officer for the department.

All sections of the trail remain open, she said.
