Top Performances

There were some incredible numbers put up this week by our area athletes.

Malik Leverett (Jr. Greenbrier)

12 catches for 267 yards and 2 TDs in Greenbrier’s lopsided win over Johnson-Gainesville. In 8 games, Leverett has 57 receptions for 1,097 yards and 7 Touchdowns. He has rushed for 5 Tds and has tossed for 3 scores as well.

Brooks Pangle (Sr. Greenbrier)

Pangle posted his 2nd straight 400-yard passing night, as he went 22 of 26 passing for 439 yards and a school record 6 Touchdown Passes. Greenbrier hammered Johnson-Gainesville 56-0. Like, Leverett, Pangle has been outstanding all year. He 143 of 224 (63.8%) for 2,293 yards with 19 TDs and only 1 interception.

Dalen Cobb (Sr. Wash-Wilkes)

Cobb was Superman Friday Night in the Tigers 44-36 victory over bitter rival Lincoln Co. Cobb was 11-13 passing for 1198 yards and 3 Touchdowns. He also rushed for 168 yards and 3 more scores on 21 carries. He tacked on a trio of 2-point conversions on his remarkable night.

Joseph Jean (Jr. Grovetown)

In Grovetown’s 42-0 win over Rockdale Co., Jean ran 15 times for 186 yards and 3 scores. The big night put him over 1,000 yards rushing in just his 8th game of the season.

DJ Walton (Jr. Evans)

Walton had 5 catches for 151 yards and 3 TDs. He added a 20-yard run on his only carry. On defense, he intercepted a pass and had a Fumble Recovery as Evans beat Heritage 45-18.

Kaleb Jackson (Sr. Evans)

Jackson was 8 of 15 passing for 176 yards and 3 TDs. He also rushed for 104 yards and another score in The Knights win.

Tay Martin (Sr. Thomson)

Martin was a perfect 7 of 7 passing for 114 yards and 3 TDs. He also ran for another score as Thomson crushed Harlem 53-7.

Eldrick “Tiger” Williams (Sr. Burke Co.)

With his running mate Charlie Dorsey out with an injury, Williams stepped up big time. He carried the ball 14 times for 108 yards and 3 Touchdowns in Burke Co.’s 42-19 win over Hephzibah.

Sports Columnist - Ashley, or “A.B.” as he is known, was born and raised in the Augusta Area, graduating from Lakeside High School in 1989. Ten years later, he was invited back to give the Commencement Address at the School’s Graduation Ceremony. He attended Columbus State University on a basketball scholarship. Following his college career, he moved back to Augusta and began a career as a radio talk show host that lasted for 21 years.
