‘Well-known network’ to Begin Filming Project in Augusta

Date: January 29, 2021

Mum is the word as Film Augusta prepares to host a “well-known network” projected to leave a six-figure economic impact on the surrounding community.

According to Jennifer Bowen, Film Augusta is negotiating the final contracts on a project expected to begin anytime in the next week. Bubbling with excitement, but required to speak “in code,” Bowen disclosed to Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau members Wednesday that after nearly a year of negotiations, the “really cool production” is close to getting started.

Although the project will not include the hiring of extras, it may include a famous actor. According to Bowen, hotel stays will make up the bulk of the anticipated six-figure economic impact.

The film industry continues to express an interest in Augusta as a production location. Bowen said the local organization has received a “flurry of inquiries” in spite of COVID-19 shutdowns and slowed production processes. Recently, another undisclosed Atlanta-based scout expressed interest in potentially filming at the James Brown Arena and at Augusta University’s Christenberry Fieldhouse. Follow-up contact is expected in the next couple of weeks.

“It has been just popping in the film industry for us here in recent weeks,” Bowen said, and further revealed that Film Augusta is hosting an Atlanta-based “well-known television series,” next week.

“We are very excited about what we are seeing,” she said.
