Westmont Elementary School students will start the 2024-2025 school year at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.

“In an effort to ensure our students receive a quality education from day one in a safe, positive environment, we will hold instruction for the first week of school at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center (PAC), located at 1000 Market Street, in Evans. During this time, students will be engaged in exciting instructional activities, and other memorable experiences to enrich their learning. We will continue to bring you updates on our progress and any necessary changes to instruction,” said a letter sent to families on Wednesday, July 31.

An open house will be held at the PAC on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 3- 5 p.m. while the finishing touches are put on the new elementary school. At the open house, families can meet their child’s teacher, along with information needed for the school year.

“Families of students in self-contained classes should be on the lookout for direct communication regarding temporary accommodations at nearby schools to meet the needs of our students,” the letter said.

Grab-and-go breakfast will be provided free of charge each day for student during the temporary move. Buses will take students to the PAC and a car line will be created for pick-up and drop-off.

“Safety and security is a top priority and measures are being put into place to include secure entry access points and monitoring by our Columbia County School District Police Department. Additionally, our school nurse will also be on site to assist with medication distribution,” the letter stated.

A Learn from Home option will also be provided and laptops will be available for families that choose to participate. For those who would like to do Learn from Home, they need to complete a survey, which can be found here.

“We understand these changes may inconvenience some, and we thank you for your continued patience and positivity. Working together, we hope to make this an engaging and enriching experience for our students, staff and families until we can celebrate the opening of our beautiful new facility
