A Westside High School student remained in custody Saturday, three days after she allegedly stabbed a younger classmate with a craft knife, according to authorities.

Angelina Gabriel, 17, of Augusta, was charged Thursday with aggravated assault in the stabbing of a 15-year-old girl in the school’s hallway.

Authorities said Gabriel used an X-Acto knife with a 1.5-inch blade to slash the victim repeatedly on her face and arms. The girl sustained serious injuries, including lacerations behind her ear and on her right forearm.

Authorities say an x-acto knife like this was used in the stabbing Thursday at Westside High School.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Richmond County school officials did not issue a public statement. A district portal showing parent letters also contained no mention of the stabbing.

Gabriel, who lives on Arrowhead Drive, was being held without bond at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center as of Saturday night.

In a separate and unrelated incident Friday, a student at Glenn Hills Middle School was found in possession of two knives.

“A student told another student that he was in possession of a knife,” Principal Marvin Washington wrote in a letter to parents. “An administrative search was conducted, where two knives were found and confiscated.”
