What to do this summer in Augusta, from free activities to fun events

School is out for the summer, and Augusta and its surrounding areas are gearing up to bring the community family-friendly fun throughout the coming months. 

Upcoming and ongoing summer events in Augusta

One recurring event in Augusta will be the Candlelight Music Series, a musical performance every Sunday evening through August at Augusta Commons. The event features jazz, R&B, soul and funk performances. Admission is $10. Kids 13 and under are free.

The Augusta Common will host Food Truck Fridays on the first Friday of each month at the Augusta Commons with food vendors, live music and a kids’ zone.

Movies on the Green is a recurring free outdoor movie event at the Augusta Commons. Upcoming showings include “Mufasa” on May 30, “Mulan” on June 20, “Inside Out 2” on July 18 and “Lilo and Stitch” on Aug. 8.

The Miller Theater shows one free movie showing each month; this summer, showings include “Back to the Future” on June 8, “Jaws” on July 13, “Lilo and Stitch” on Aug. 17 and “Jurassic Park” on Sept. 14. 

Fleming Pool will be open beginning Sunday, May 25. Pool hours will be Sunday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the summer. 

Summer Beach Blast is coming to Evans Towne Center Park on June 7 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. This event will feature live music, food vendors and games. Admission is free. 

Starting June 2, Five Star Lanes Bowling Center is offering two free games of bowling every day to kids 15 years and under every Monday-Friday until Aug. 1. Parents can register their kids online

Outdoor Augusta is hosting several youth kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding summer camps for ages 10-14 in June and July, at $250 per week or $65 per day. More information can be found online.

In Aiken, Cold Creek Nurseries will hold its annual Crepe Myrtle Festival on June 21 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This event will include a seminar on caring for crepe myrtles, along with live music and food trucks.
