Things are slowly starting to return to normal in Columbia County, which means government meetings will resume this week.

Columbia County Board of Education

The Columbia County Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and on the agenda are multiple updates about Hurricane Helene. These include updates on operations, facilities and maintenance, curriculum, assessment and instruction and more.

There are also several recognitions on the agenda, including Georgia Art Education Association 2025 Art Educator of the Year and National Merit Scholarship Program Semi-Finalists.

The Columbia County Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Board of Education office on Hereford Farm Road. To view the full agenda, visit ccboe.net.

Columbia County committees

The Columbia County Development and Planning Services Committee and the Management and Internal Services Committee will both meet on Tuesday.

On the agenda for the MIS Committee is an agreement for EagleView Disaster Response Program, which staff is recommending for approval.

“Columbia County has an existing agreement with Pictometry International to acquire

oblique digital orthophotography, which is digital aerial photography that is captured at a 45-degree angle and offers around-the-compass side views of structures and geographic/topographical features in the county. The agreement includes a provision for a Disaster Response Program (DRP). The DRP permits the county to get an emergency flight and imagery in the event of a disaster. The county would like to activate the DRP provision for a county-wide flight as part of the recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene. The DRP would permit new orthophotography to be available for damage assessment and to support ongoing recovery efforts,” according to the agenda document.

Also, on the agenda for the MIS Committee is to appoint Barry Fleming to the Hospital Authority. He will be replacing Ronnie Kurtz, who resigned earlier this year.

For the DPS Committee, on the agenda is an alcohol license for Gregory M Parker Inc dba Parker’s #107, located at 5170 Columbia Road. There is no known opposition to the request and staff is recommending approval

The committees will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center complex. To view the full agendas, visit columbiacountyga.gov.
