What’s happening in Columbia County this week?

This will be a busy week for governments in Columbia County as several entities have meetings.

Columbia County Board of Commissioners committees

The Columbia County Public Works and Engineering Services Committee (PWES) and Community and Emergency Services (CES) Committee will both meet on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center complex.

On the agenda for the PWES Committee is a request to purchase an 140HP Influent Pump from Xylem Water Solutions, USA., Inc. for the Little River Plant. According to the agenda document, the pump needs repair or replacement.

“We are proposing to replace the existing pump with a Flygt pump due to our positive experience with the reliability of Flygt pumps. This replacement is already accounted for in the budget and falls within our allocated funds,” according to the agenda document.

An independent contractor agreement with Bluewater Engineering for Design Services related to the Wrightsboro Road (SR 223) at Louisville Road turn lanes improvement project. According to the agenda document, the county wants to widen the road for the addition of right turn lanes for both northbound and southbound approaches on Louisville Road and on Wrightsboro Road for the westbound approach. 

“The intent of the project is to separate the right turning traffic from the left turn/thru movements, which will improve overall safety and alleviate congestion,” said the agenda document. 

On the agenda for the CES Committee is a $2,000 donation from Attic Treasures for Columbia County Animal Services.

Columbia County Board of Education

The Columbia County Board of Education will meet for a work session at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Board of Education office. 

Items on the agenda include discussion a presentation about the E-SPLOST building program, student achievement update, special programs update and Constitution Day update.

Other meetings

The Harlem City Council will meet for its regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in the municipal courtroom at the Public Safety Building.

On the agenda is an ordinance to amend chapter 108 land use for the addition of a community of a community garden use in a residential district. Also on the agenda is for council members to consider a proclamation for Georgia Reads Day and a conditional use application for Augusta Golf Cars.

The Columbia County Public Facilities Authority will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the commissioners conference room at the Evans Government Center complex.

The Columbia County Hospital Authority will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 11 in the commissioners conference room at the Evans Government Center complex.
