Cheesecake sundaes, breakfast waffle cakes and a creamy, caffeinated concoction called a
“buttery pecan chiller joe” are among the fanciful sweets that have made the Whipped Creamery dessert shop in Grovetown as popular as it is.
“I love strategy,” said owner Alea Garvin, who launched Whipped Creamery in November
2018 at a location in the Augusta Mall. “I love marketing and being able to have the freedom to
being creative.”

One of the many marketing catch phrases the shop utilizes is “snatching taste buds.”
Garvin calls the expansive menu a flexible blueprint, as sweet-toothed customers have the freedom to blend a variety of ingredients as they see fit.

“You have the flexibility to change it up,” said Garvin. “We offer creative freedom with all our
items. We have milkshakes slushies, smoothies, coffee-blended drinks we call ‘mochila.’”
One is just as likely to find a patron enjoying a cotton candy ice cream with walnut as a
gluten-free Dole fruit smoothie. The eatery offers specialty desserts like breakable cakes in the shape of hearts for Valentine’s Day or weddings; and one of the more fashionable dishes is a specialized ice cream sandwich Garvin calls a “dessert burger.”

With so much to offer and unlimited ways to offer it, Whipped Creamery maintains its
following in part via a strong online-presence. Garvin is quick to note its five-star rating on
Google. She stays very aware of the shop’s digital footprint, maintaining its website and posting frequently on Facebook, Instagram and Tik-Tok.

“When I first got started, I didn’t know any of this stuff,” said Garvin. “So this business has
taught me a lot.”
Garvin says she’s wanted to open her own frozen dessert shop ever since working at a TCBY
yogurt shop at age 15. She has since always enjoyed baking, decorating cakes and experimenting with making treats.

A wide-ranging series of jobs culminated in her moving with her family from her native
Orangeburg, S.C. to the Augusta area eight years ago for a job in human resources with
Richmond County. She later moved on to a position at Savannah River Site, which she did not enjoy.
“That was the worst job ever,” said Garvin. “But I’m thankful, because it made me want to
branch out and do my own thing.”
The rise of the COVID pandemic and issues at Augusta Mall prompted her to move to her current location in December of 2020. That, combined with sales from the Whipped Creamery food truck, has proven the frozen dessert shop lucrative. Garvin only aims to keep expanding.
In late February, she plans on opening a second location on Furys Ferry Road.
“Don’t like boundaries,” said Garvin. “I don’t do well being put in a box. It doesn’t work for me
in any fashion.”
Whipped Creamery is at 514 Oxbow Drive in Grovetown. Its second location will be at 353 Furys Ferry Road. For more information, visit its website at https://www.whippedcreamerytreats.com/ or
