A case that has shaken two Georgia counties for more than a month is expected to take a dramatic turn on Monday as law enforcement agencies prepare to share major new developments.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office will hold a joint press conference at 3:45 p.m. Monday at 400 Walton Way in Augusta. The briefing will focus on the ongoing investigation into the death of 23-year-old Xavion Wimberly, whose tragic end captured the attention of the entire region.

Wimberly was killed in the early morning hours of May 25 while crossing Deans Bridge Road near Suz Lounge. Authorities say he was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene despite efforts to save him. Daveyon TyShawn Williams, also 23, was arrested soon after and charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run, and driving under the influence.

But now, more than a month later, investigators are suggesting that there is more to the story.

In a statement announcing the press conference, law enforcement officials hinted at major case updates and the possibility that critical information has yet to surface. They also plan to unveil a significant reward for anyone who can provide information about what happened that night.

Officials have not released further details, but the tone of the announcement suggests they may be pursuing new leads or even additional suspects. The presence of Wimberly’s family members at the event underscores the seriousness of what may be revealed.

The case has drawn widespread public interest not only because of its tragic nature but also due to Wimberly’s family ties. He was the grandson of the late Judge Wimberly of Burke County, a figure well known in legal and civic circles.

Community concerns deepened in the days following the incident when reports surfaced that Wimberly may have been robbed while lying injured in the street. Investigators have not confirmed those claims, but they remain under review.

Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams previously described Wimberly as a respectful and kind young man with a bright future. His death, he said, created a deep sense of loss across the community.

Monday’s press conference may finally bring clarity to a case that has left the public with far more questions than answers. The event is open to media and will be streamed live on official department channels.
