Down trees and power outages have been reported across the area as heavy winds ripped through the area early Jan. 3.
As of 8:55 a.m. more than 10,000 people in the Augusta area were without power, according to Georgia Power Co.’s website. More than 71,000 in the state of Georgia didn’t have power.
“Georgia Power will continue to monitor and deploy repair crews as necessary, throughout the morning. Monitor our outage map for details and updated information as our restoration efforts continue.”

According to the National Weather Service website, a high wind advisory is in effect until 2 p.m. Jan. 3 for multiple Georgia and South Carolina counties including Richmond, Burke, Lincoln, McDuffie, Aiken and Edgefield.
The latest advisory was issued at 9:01 a.m. Monday.
Winds of 20 to 30 miles per hours with gusts up to 40 mph are expected.
Downed trees and limbs have been reported across the area.
Columbia County’s Public Safety and Emergency Response Facebook page reported trees on a power lines at Washington Road at Dogwood Lane, which is near Wildwood Park, and at Hereford Farm Road at Canterbury Drive a tree had fallen on a power line. Also, a tree was in the roadway at Washington Road at Pollards Corner and on Clanton Road.
In Richmond County, a tree is in the roadway on Lake Forest Drive, and the road is blocked at Walton Way and Kirk Place.
