A 60-year-old woman was found severely injured and unconscious next to her vehicle Sunday morning at Langley Pond, according to Aiken County authorities.
The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition, Sheriff’s Department Capt. Eric Abdullah said Monday. He did not identify the woman.
The sheriff’s office said they were investigating the case and gave few other details, except that the woman was Caucasian and was found on the morning of New Year’s Day by someone else before being rushed to the hospital. A friend of the woman is warning others that someone is “attacking little elderly ladies at Langley Dam,” but the sheriff’s office did not confirm that.
The specific location where the woman was found was not available. Langley Pond is described online as the world’s largest pond as well as a nationally recognized park and venue in Aiken County with a 2.8 mile Loop Trail.
Two weeks ago, the park was the location of a Christmas event with Santa Claus arriving on a boat and greeting children and adults. Facilities at Langley Pond include a boat ramp with dock, swim area, concession stand, large picnic shelter, grills, bathhouse, playground, and sandy beach. It is also described as equestrian friendly.
