At 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, deputies located the suspect vehicle at Pendleton King Park with a man behind the wheel, sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said. “Deputies observed the male subject was deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to his head,” Sgt. Lee said.

He was identified as 45-year-old Michael A. Brooks, of George Road in Augusta, according to Coroner Mark Bowen. Brooks is believed to be the victim’s ex-husband.

A local woman went live on Facebook from the scene and described an apparent confrontation between a driver of a Chrysler 300. She showed video of a body on the sheet with a pink blanket in the middle of the road.

Coroner Mark Bowen could be seen arriving on the scene and viewing the body of a black female.
