Aiken County authorities have launched an investigation after a woman’s decomposed body was discovered Wednesday morning in the 200 block of Blackstone Camp Road.

According to Aiken County Coroner Darryl M. Ables, his office was called to the scene around 8 a.m. Thursday. The woman’s identity has not yet been released, pending family notification. The death is being investigated as “suspicious.”

Officials have confirmed the deceased is NOT Susan Rhodes, a woman who went missing last month following a car accident in North Augusta.

An autopsy will be performed in Newberry to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Authorities say additional details will be released as the investigation progresses.
