Augusta Regional Airport is continue its ‘Advancing Growing Stronger’ campaign with upgrades to its carousel and baggage claim area. The repairs begun this past week and are targeted for a September / October 2021 finish time.

The $2.4 million Baggage Claim Carousel Replacement Project includes replacing and updating the existing baggage claim system, replacing conveyors, adding a new oversize bag slide, constructing new baggage offices and more.

This project is funded by a combination of Federal Airport Improvement Program Grants and Airport Passenger Facility Charges.

“As we plan for growth and focus on airport improvements, this project epitomizes our commitment to enhance the airport passenger experience,” said airport Executive Director Herbert L. Judon Jr. “Once completed, the Augusta Regional Airport will have state of the art baggage conveyance systems that will significantly improve efficiencies.”

Augusta Technical College president Dr. Jermaine Whirl announced the college’s plans for summer and fall.

The college will offer traditional face-to-face classes, hybrid courses (up to 50% of the course content is online) and fully virtual classes. Student support services will be available both in-person and virtually.

“Enhanced cleanings in each facility and major investments in proper PPE and training can be attributed to our outcomes,” said Dr. Whirl. “In an abundance of caution, the college will continue social distancing practices and mask wearing for all faculty, staff and students. The health and safety of our students and employees are our number one priority.”

The Atlanta Braves are set to expand to full capacity starting Friday, May 7.

“We have had great success welcoming our fans back safely to Truist Park,” said Derek Schiller, president and CEO of the Atlanta Braves. “Our outdoor environment, the demand from our season ticket holders and fans to watch us play in person plus safety measures which are in place make it feel that now is the right time to get back to full capacity at Truist Park.”

Health and safety measures at Truist Park will remain. Enhanced sanitization efforts will continue, and revisions to the seating capacity and health and safety guidelines will be subject to review throughout the season.
