Boudreaux’s Seafood has opened a traditional New Orleans-style shaved ice shop at 2111 Lumpkin Rd. next to Samaha Insurance Agency.

“Many wonder what makes a New Orleans-style snowball? Yes, a great flavor, but really it is all about the ice. When you touch our ice with a spoon, it will easily turn into a soft puddle of smooth ice. Please come check us out and beat the heat,” read a Facebook post from Boudreaux’s.

The hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Monarch Private Capital has announced the financial closing of low-income housing tax credit equity (LIHTC) for a $20 million affordable senior living development called The Gateway at Augusta.

The Gateway at Augusta is located at 3699 Peach Orchard Rd. The community will consist of 122 affordable apartment units, available for households ages 55 and older earning at or below 60 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). The three-story apartment building will comprise 18 one-bedroom units and 104 two-bedroom units, complete with elevator access and ample parking for residents.

Monarch is a nationally-recognized tax-advantaged investment firm that finances and manages a diversified portfolio of projects that generate both federal and state tax credits. Monarch partnered with Gateway Development Corporation to bring the project to fruition, which is expected to be available for rent in 2023.

“Gateway has been eager to move into the city of Augusta for some time,” said Josh Mandell, president of The Gateway Companies. “It is a growing, attractive market with a strong demand for quality affordable housing. Our team is excited about the opportunity to help meet this need with Monarch and our other partners.”

The Rotary Club of Augusta has announced the election of Ed Presnell as the new district governor for 2021-2011. Presnell will oversee 61 clubs in the central, south-central, southeast and coastal Georgia areas.

Presnell has been a member of the Rotary Club of Augusta since January 13, 2003. He served as the 2017-18 President, is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Paul Harris Bequest Society. He served as a Trustee for the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) from 2018-2021.

“It is an extreme honor to be our District Governor for the next Rotary year. There is no better time than now to promote this year’s Rotary International theme of ‘Serve to Change Lives,'” Presnell said. “The 60-plus clubs in east, central and southeast Georgia include over 2,800 Rotarians who share the Rotary theme and vision, each proudly serving our respective communities. I am truly excited about fulfilling this opportunity.”
