Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced this week that unemployment in Georgia has dropped 0.3 percentage points in February to get to 4.8%. That number has decreased 7.7 percentage points since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Georgia’s unemployment rate was 1.4% lower than the national unemployment rate in January, per GDOL.
“We are continuing to see a surge in employment here in Georgia,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “As Georgians return to the workforce and businesses continue to hire, we can look forward to steady economic growth across the state.”
SRP Park is partnering with University of South Carolina Aiken and Augusta University to host the Battle on the River Rivalry Peach Belt Conference Game on Tuesday, March 30.

This will be my last “Battle of the River as I retire this year, so let’s make it the best.”

The Augusta Metro Chamber’s Women in Business speaker series, presented by SRS, will continue April 20. Kayla Krananberg of the American Heart Association will present “The Business of Farm to Table.”
This event will be held at the Enterprise Mill Events Center. Krananberg will share the heart-healthy benefits of supporting the farm to table movement through food choices and highlighting the work of organizations like the Laney Walker Farmers Market, where nutrition is delivered to underserved communities.
More murals are coming to Augusta. The Golden Blocks project is bringing new public art to the Laney Walker and Bethlehem neighborhoods of Augusta. The Greater Augusta Arts Council, Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, and Augusta’s Housing and Community Development are teaming up for two artistic concepts. Xavier O. Jones, W. Travis “Brotha Trav” Wright, and Hasani Sahlehe will work with the Laney Museum for educational pieces that tell the story of the Golden Blocks area.
