Date: May 18, 2025

Tuesday’s Augusta Commission regular meeting may be a short one, with only 25 agenda items and most of them on the commission’s consent agenda, to be approved as a group.

The 2 p.m. meeting will follow a 1:30 p.m. meeting of the city’s pension and audit committee.

Items on which the commission is expected to vote Tuesday include:

  • To approve a two-year contract with three one-year extensions for Trane to provide HVAC preventive maintenance at 11 facilities and building automation services at five facilities, totaling $580,671 for Year 1. Former Commissioner Ben Hasan signed up to speak to “get clarity” on the agenda item.
  • To deny a petition by Southern Civil Solutions, LLC, for Property Developers, LLC, to rezone 41.5 acres off of Gibson Road, Tate Road and Winn Drive for 319 townhomes. The Augusta Planning Commission recommended denial.
  • To approve Honesta Real Estate Group amending its planned unit development zoning to include 312 townhome, apartment and single-family detached units as well as retail on a 21.54 acres at a former mill site off Steiner Avenue and Mill Street.
  • To approve a petition by Kenneth Rayburn to establish a paintball recreational facility on 28.1 acres at 5250 Mike Padgett Hwy.
  • To deny a petition by N.K. Patel, LLC, to establish a liquor store next to the Central Mart at 2059 Central Ave. in the Summerville Historic District. Staff recommended denial, citing residential zoning along Heard Avenue and that Heard is a local rather than arterial street. Patel was denied a similar application a year ago.
  • To approve a contract with Infrastructure Systems Management for $30,000 to design a median modification at the intersection of Robert C. Daniel Parkway and Exchange Drive to accommodate an additional 3,000-5,000 vehicles generated by the new Chick-fil-A.
  • To lease two sewer vacuum trucks for Engineering’s Stormwater Utility division from Environmental Products Group for four years at $1.05 million.

Several delegations are signed up to speak at the start of the meeting, including:

  • Aziza Eil’Yudah, who owns a comic book company, about a summer reading program.
  • Augusta/CSRA Habitat for Humanity CEO Bernadette Kelliher about approval to build two houses on Hummingbird Lane in a partnership with Augusta Housing and Community Development.
