Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Snead Way in Evans on Dec. 11 in reference to a senior citizen who allegedly assaulted the woman cleaning his home.

The victim told authorities in her statement that Michael James, 70, of Snead Way, had been drinking bourbon before pulling out a .45 caliber handgun and pointing it at her head.

James then grabbed the woman by her throat and forced her to the floor.

The woman told deputies that she had no idea why James assaulted her and added she feared for her life, according to the incident report.

James admitted to pointing the gun at the woman’s head but told deputies the gun was not loaded. James further stated he wanted the woman out of his home because she “was fat and ugly.”

A breathalyzer test was performed at the scene indicating James had a blood alcohol level of .115.

Sgt. Jerry Studer of CCSO located the handgun and, upon examination, found that it contained a fully loaded magazine as well as one round in the chamber, the report said.

James is currently in custody at Columbia County Detention Center. No bond has been set at this time.
