Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred Sept. 19 on Landing Road in Jackson, S.C.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., deputies responded to the scene where, according to the incident report, they discovered DeAndre Holmes, 34, lying on the ground in the woods. Holmes was intoxicated and yelling that he had been shot.
Holmes advised authorities that the perpetrator who shot him was driving a side-by-side off-road vehicle.
Upon initial examination, responding officers determined that despite a laceration on his back, Holmes did not have any gunshot wounds.
However, when they examined Holmes’ vehicle, deputies did notice that the back window was broken, and they could see a bullet lodged in the roof.
In his statement to the police, Holmes said that he had been down the road at the boat ramp with a large group of people.

One of the men became angry because Holmes was flirting with his girlfriend, and a verbal argument began in which, according to Holmes, the individual told him to leave or he “had something for him” if he didn’t.
According to the incident report, deputies relocated to the boat ramp where they spoke with several witnesses who told them that none of them knew Holmes personally, but that he had been at the boat ramp causing problems and was asked to leave.
Witnesses said that after Holmes drove away, they heard gunshots, but could not say where the shots came from.
Standing at the scene, the responding officer saw an unknown off-road vehicle driving through the woods, avoiding law enforcement, according to the incident report.
The person of interest was identified by deputies as Noah Hawkins, 22.
Hawkins told authorities that he was leaving when he heard the gunshots.
This is an open investigation. No arrest has been made.
