Date: June 03, 2021

An Aiken man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly secretly video recording another person without their consent while the individual was in the bedroom of a rental house.

Rhett Riviere, 67, of the 1000 block of Clark Road SW, Aiken, was charged with voyeurism. The incident happened in May 2019 at a rental home at 115 Third Avenue in Aiken.

According to a SLED warrant, Riviere recorded or filmed the victim in a place that she had a reasonable expectation of privacy, done for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person.

The SLED investigation was requested by the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Riviere was booked at the Aiken County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The incident was detailed in a lawsuit that names Riviere and Katherine A. Thomas as defendants. According to the suit, the plaintiff and two friends were recorded while the women stayed in a rental property managed by Riviere and Thomas called the “Stirrup Cup Cottage.”

Later, they were informed by a SLED agent there were videos of them from their stay.
