Augusta Attorney Charles Lyons III announces candidacy for Superior Court

Augusta area attorney Charles H.S. Lyons III announced Friday, Feb. 11, that he is a judicial candidate for the seat on the Augusta Judicial Circuit Superior Court bench currently held by Judge Jesse Stone.

Lyons made his announcement in front of supporters at the Municipal Building.

The four-year term of office is for a judgeship that will cover Richmond and Burke counties. Superior Court judges preside over felony criminal cases, civil cases and domestic court proceedings.

Lyons, a native of Augusta, earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina. In 1985 he was admitted to practice law in both Georgia and South Carolina.

Stone is also expected to run for the office that Gov. Brian Kemp appointed him to fill in February 2021.

The election is May 25. Qualification is March 7-11.
