In a close game, the Augusta Preparatory Day School survived the powerful running of Bulloch Academy.

On the night of their homecoming game, the Cavaliers (2-2) found a way to win after trailing 13-6 at the half.

At the beginning of the second half, running back Bryson Cronan started off hot by racking up 33 yards on the ground. A critical facemask penalty on the Gators set the Cavaliers up inside the red zone.

The Cavaliers’ quarterback Tyon Waiters would then score on an 11-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 13-13 with 8:16 left in the third quarter.

Scott drove Bulloch down the field and end the series by running by a touchdown. The Cavaliers’ Johnathon Jones had a sack on Ben Aaron on first down, but Scott answered with a 26-yard touchdown run that put the Gators up 20-13.

The Cavaliers would then rally behind the running of Cronan to score on a touchdown run by Cronan. With the extra point conversion by Sam Connell—who played multiple positions including wide receiver, linebacker, punt returner and kicker—the Cavaliers would tie the game at 20-20.

The Cavaliers would give themselves the lead by scoring on a touchdown pass from Waiters to Christian Harris. The extra point by Tran was good, and Augusta Prep would lead 27-20 the rest of the way.

In the first half, Bulloch (2-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead by scoring on a touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Aaron to fullback Bryson Scott.

The Cavaliers would block the extra point attempt, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of the Gators.

The Gators had a chance to add to their lead, but a key sack on fourth down by Emery Doss, the defensive tackle for the Cavaliers, halted their momentum.

The Cavaliers would then build some momentum of their own with a 7-yard touchdown run by running back Bryson Cronan that tied the game. That touchdown was set up by the Cavaliers’ Sam Connell having two catches for 34 yards during the drive.

The Cavaliers had a chance to take the lead with an extra point conversion, but a critical false start penalty lead to a blocked extra point attempt by the Gators on Connell, making the score tied at 6-6.

The Gators answered with a touchdown of their own, with Ben Aaron running for a 7-yard touchdown with 2:32 left in the first half.

Scott had several impressive runs for the Gators, but it was not enough to overcome the Cavaliers.

Augusta Prep Day will play at Glascock County High School on Friday, Sept. 23. Bulloch Academy’s next game will be at home against Savannah High School on Friday, Sept. 23.
