A man with an extensive history of abusing the women in his life who is now accused of killing his latest girlfriend was denied bond Friday, Sept. 16

Cornell Thomas, 32, is accused of murder and weapon violations in the Aug. 23 fatal shooting of 43-year-old Cynthia “Boosie” Wright at her job site at Union Agener Distribution Center on Fifth Street.

During Thomas’ Richmond County Superior Court bond hearing Friday, Assistant District Attorney Dre’Kevius Huff told the judge that security cameras at Wright’s job captured Wright’s killer in the act. After shooting Wright several times, Thomas left in her vehicle, Huff said

Wright’s family told investigators that Wright had a new boyfriend, Thomas. They knew they had argued recently. Wright told Thomas their relationship was over. Thomas told investigators he snapped and blacked out after confronting Wright at her job, Huff said.

Thomas was paroled from prison Feb. 7. He was sentenced to 10 years in Screven County for cruelty to children that occurred in October 2019.

In Richmond County, Thomas pleaded guilty to beating a woman and shooting at her on Oct. 2, 2016. Because of the time he had been held in jail pending trial, Thomas was released onto an 18-year probation sentence. A specific condition of probation was a prohibition from possessing a firearm.

Thomas’ first conviction for beating a woman was in 2007. He was convicted the following year for beating the same woman again. In 2015, he was convicted of hitting another woman repeated in the face before picking her up and dropping her on her head.

Wright’s daughter, Tyesha Wright, asked the judge to deny bond. Her mother was her friend but anyone who knew her would say she was the sweetest person with a generous and caring spirit.

Judge Jesse Stone denied bond. Given his history, Thomas posed a significant risk of crimes and a danger to the community, Stone said.
