Despite being a big fan, Jackson Leggett slept through the Atlanta Braves World Series win.
“It was a school night,” said Wendy Leggett, the fourth grader’s mom.
But Jackson didn’t have to compete with school Monday to be part of Braves’ history, and he said he was excited at the chance to see the Braves’ World Series trophy at the Lady A Pavilion at Evans Towne Center Park.
The World Series trophy spent about four hours at the park, and fans such as the Leggetts lined up for their chance to see the trophy up-close.
The trophy was supposed to be at the park on April 5, the same night as Rock Fore Dough! but after the bad weather pushed the concert inside, it forced the delay of the trophy visit, said Bill Botham, Columbia County’s events rental coordinator.
They rescheduled it for April 11 “because the kids were still out of school,” he said.

Evans was number 41 of 151 stops across the Southeast commemorating 151 years of Braves baseball.
“We felt the tremendous support of Braves Country throughout the season and particularly in the postseason, and we are taking this championship on the road to fans across the Southeast so that they can share in the joy and celebration of this historic victory,” Derek Schiller, President & CEO of the Atlanta Braves, said in a January news release.
Botham said they expected 1,000 people to see the trophy over the course of four hours.
The Braves trophy personnel had the process down. They took all the photos on a iPad and texted or emailed them. It only took a few minutes per photo.
Botham said before the trophy made it to the Lady A Pavilion stage at Evans Towne Center Park, it stopped at a nearby sheriff substation where officers had a first look.
According to the Atlanta Braves website, the tour will make additional area stops from 4 to 8 p.m. April 19 at Academy Sports, Aiken, from 5 to 8 p.m. April 21 at the Thomson Depot in Thomson and from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 22 at SRP Park during an Augusta GreenJackets game.
