Work crews have been at Candlewood Suites Augusta off Washington Road, since severe flooding occurred over Christmas weekend.

Employees at the extended-stay hotel confirm that the building flooded after a pipe connected to the sprinkler system burst due to the cold weather on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 24.

As of Friday, Dec. 30, the extent of the damage is still being assessed. The hotel, however, is still open, operational and welcoming new guests.

Candlewood Suites is a brand of British hospitality company InterContinental Hospitality Group, marketed as IHG Hotels & Resorts, which also owns Holiday Inn. Other IHG hotels in the area include Staybridge Suites Augusta on Center West Parkway, and Avid Hotel Augusta West in Grovetown.

Candlewood Suites Augusta was developed in 2007 at 1080 Claussen Road, along a west Augusta corridor of hotels off Washington and Steven Creek Roads, heading toward Riverwatch Parkway. IHG, via a partnership with a company called Lend Lease Group, has installed a collection of hotels on U.S. Army bases called IHG Army Hotels, one of which is another Candlewood Suites on Fort Gordon, opened in June of 2020.
