The chief investigator for Columbia County District Attorney’s Office was arrested Thursday on charges of threatening to kill his wife.
Trevan Baker, 33, of Grovetown, was booked Thursday afternoon for terroristic threats and acts. His arrest followed a mental evaluation because of threats to kill himself as well, according to a sheriff’s report.
The victim called the sheriff’s office, and arriving deputies learned that Baker was upset because he believed his wife was having an extramarital relationship. Baker was “heavily intoxicated” and refused to calm down.
“He continued to act belligerent as manifested by his loud, vulgar and generally obtuse behavior,” a sheriff’s report says.
Officers tried to help by arranging for Baker to stay at his friend’s house. But Baker walked back inside the home on Tyler Woods Drive and threatened to kill his wife and her alleged lover, the report says.

Baker was then taken into custody and moved outside, where he threatened to kill himself, a report says. Gold Cross responded and took him to Augusta University Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
He was arrested after his release and booked Thursday afternoon on a $2,600 bond.
Baker is listed as chief investigator for District Attorney Bobby Christine’s Office.
Christine released this statement on Thursday: “On the morning of February 15, 2023, Columbia Judicial Circuit District Attorney Investigator Trevan Kendall Baker was placed on administrative leave as a result of an allegation of Terroristic Threats. Any prosecution of this matter will be handled by a conflict prosecutor.”
Before Baker joined the D.A.’s office in 2021, he was a uniform patrol officer for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and has remained a reserve deputy during his employment. The sheriff’s office said he has been terminated as a reserve deputy as a result of this incident.
A sheriff’s report says Baker has his wife’s name tattooed on his neck as well as half-sleeve tattoos on both arms. He goes by “Tre.”
