An Augusta man who repeatedly sexually abused a child was sentenced Tuesday, Oct. 4, to 30 years in prison followed by the remainder of his life on probation.
A Richmond County Superior Court jury had been selected, and the first witness, the victim, had begun testifying when Monteco R. Freeman, 22, decided to plead guilty.
Freeman faced 11 counts which included aggravated child molestation, child molestation and sexual exploitation of children for the crimes he committed on a girl from November 2018 through May 2019.
Freeman pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated child molestation.
Assistant District Attorney Sarah Strickland said the sexual abuse span the gambit of sex acts on the child, some of which he recorded on his phone. Freeman had a prior accusation of aggravated sodomy from 2018, but a grand jury chose not to indict that case.
At the time of Freeman’s arrest, the victim was 12 years old.
Freeman will get credit for the three years he has in jail awaiting trial.
