Fresh controversy is swirling around Chip and Joanna Gaines new show titled Back to the Frontier. The show was produced by the Gaines’ Magnolia Network and premiered on HBO Max on July 10. The show features a male homosexual couple and their two sons.
The Gaineses espouse to be Christians and have historically been very outspoken about their faith. They attend the Antioch Community Church, which holds to a traditional biblical view of marriage that excludes homosexual unions. The new show clearly contradicts this biblical viewpoint.
To make matters worse, the show carries at TV-14 rating. The Gaineses have effectively told the entire evangelical world that gay marriage is acceptable and it’s reasonable for children to be exposed to those relationships. All done for the mighty dollar.
With an estimated net worth of over $50 million, the Gaineses seem to have been blessed in all of their endeavors. By agreeing to host this show, which prominently features a homosexual couple and their children, the Gaines are making it clear that they care more about financial gains than holding to a biblical viewpoint.
Much of the evangelical world has looked up to the Gaines as a positive example. They have been entrusted with a lot of fame, status and money. I believe that God was testing them here to see if they care more about fame and money verses holding firm to biblical truth. If I am right, then clearly they failed the test.
Being entrusted with much comes with responsibility. Instead of taking a stand for morality, they have sold out for a few more dollars and days in the spotlight. God will not honor or bless that.
“It is very disappointing. While we are to love people, we should love them enough to tell them the truth of God’s Word. His Word is absolute truth. God loves us, and His design for marriage is between one man and one woman. Promoting something that God defines as sin is in itself sin,” Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, posted on X.
Chip Gaines responded to the controversy on X.
“Talk, ask qustns, listen.. maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st, understand later/never It’s a sad sunday when “non believers” have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian,” Chip Gaines posted.
Mr. Gaines completely missed the point here. His invoking the “modern American Christian culture” shows just how out of touch he really is. The fact is that the Bible does not condone homosexuality; in fact it’s always judged and condemned harshly. It is an affront to God and His design for humanity and marriage. It corrupts the very image that was placed onto mankind during creation.
Someone should tell Mr. Gaines it is unloving to allow someone to continue in a sinful lifestyle without lovingly correcting them. Allowing someone headed for an eternity separated from a holy God to remain in a state of ignorance is not only mean its flat out hateful.
It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall of Antioch Community Church the next time the passage preaches on marriage or homosexuality. Hopefully the pastor doesn’t sell out like the Gaineses have done.
